‘Talks have taken place with his representatives’ Anthony Joseph on Celtic defender deal

Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports News, a reputable source of Celtic news and information, provided the update. According to FIFA regulations, Slotsager would still have to pay Celtic a Development Fee even though his contract expires at the conclusion of current season. Although a 19-year-old central defender still has a lot of growing to do, Celtic may have a spot open for a fourth option in that position.

The current favorite duo is Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty, with Liam Scales serving as a backup. With only 10 minutes of first team action this season, it is evident that the Pole hasn’t matured as anticipated after joining from Legia Warsaw in July 2023. Stephen Welsh has left on loan to Mechelen, leaving Maik Nawrocki as the current fourth option.

Slotsager would seem to fit into the project category, which at one point appeared to be the main focus of Celtic’s hiring efforts. However, the addition of Adam Idah, Luke McCowan, Nicolas Kuhn, and Trusty has caused the emphasis to change to a little more experienced profile. Joseph’s assertion that negotiations are ongoing with the player’s agent raises the possibility that a pre-contract agreement might be struck without any pressing need to finalize the transfer by the January window, which ends on February 3.
