Rangers: Lee McCulloch amazed by James Tavernier after what he did v Kilmarnock.

Lee McCulloch was in awe of James Tavernier as the Rangers player scored a stunning equaliser during a 2-1 victory against Kilmarnock on Wednesday 28 February.

The Gers were pinned back when John Lundstram was punished for a handball in the 12th minute, with Danny Armstrong assuming the job of slotting past Jack Butland.

After a difficult first half, it seemed that a special moment would be needed for Philippe Clement’s team to get back into the battle, and up stepped Tavernier.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland on Wednesday (28 February, 8:58pm), McCulloch said: “What do you say? The caliber of the dude is astounding.

“He’s 20, maybe 30 yards out, it’s up and over the wall, giving [Will] Dennis no chance at all. It has given Rangers a lifeline.”

James Tavernier steps up for Rangers in Scottish Premiership

As any captain should, Tavernier stepped up when it counted most, smashing past Dennis in between the Kilmarnock sticks to equalise for Rangers.

With his 13th league goal of the season, Tavernier underlined exactly why he has earned his spot in the Ibrox history books, adding to his remarkable tally of goals for the Gers since 2015.

This moment turned the tide at Rugby Park, with Tom Lawrence scoring four minutes to grab the lead and save the league leader’s blushes.

With Old Firm rivals Celtic pounding Dundee FC at Celtic Park, it was crucial that Philippe Clement’s team earned all three points against Killie and retain the two-point buffer at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Though Clement will be hoping that his forwards can continue to step up in important circumstances, like being 1-0 down to Kilmarnock, it will be a fantastic feeling to know that he can count on his right-back to pull off such sensational moments.
