Sean Dyche likened to Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger ahead of Burnley return

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany claims that Everton manager Sean Dyche is still their “reference point” as he makes his first visit back to Turf Moor on Saturday night since his dismissal in April 2022.

Sean Dyche, according to Vincent Kompany, has been just as crucial to Burnley as Pep Guardiola was to Manchester City.

After winning five major titles during his three seasons at City under Guardiola, Kompany claims Dyche had an equally significant influence during his ten-year rule at Turf Moor. Dyche helped the Clarets win seven out of eight Premier League seasons, qualify for Europe, and win two promotions.

For the first time since his firing in April 2022, Dyche will be back at Turf Moor on Saturday night, and Kompany insists he will always be their “reference point.” “Every club has a reference point and for this club, Sean has been the reference in recent history,” stated the manager of Burnley.

Nobody performed any better than him, in my opinion. I can tell how well he is doing his task. He is the club’s reference, and we are a Premier League team. Those who trail behind him must do better. That is everyone’s objective.

“Anybody who goes after Pep will try and do better than Pep. Good luck! Anybody who comes after Arsene Wenger at Arsenal is still trying to do better than Arsene. It takes time, though.

“Sean is that person for us and you don’t become that person unless you are a very, very good coach. The biggest thing is coaching is clarity and there is a tremendous amount of clarity to what his team do.”

Everton may just be two places above Burnley in 17th place because of their 10-points deduction, but Kompany does not see them as relegation rivals. The Blues have won their last three league games without conceding and that is how Kompany measures them.

“We have to make sure we don’t confuse things,” said Kompany. “They’ve been a solid team in this division this year, so I don’t judge the administrative side of things. Someone has decided they should be deducted points, but I don’t judge that. I judge the team for what they are and they’re a good team.

“It’s no different to when we played West Ham and Wolves. These teams are good teams in this league and we just have to make sure we’re at our best because they’re a good side

After James Trafford, the England Under-21 goalkeeper, produced ten saves to help Burnley earn a crucial point at Brighton on Saturday, Kompany added his accolades to the chorus. “I think he’d been good before that game,” he stated, expressing his opinion that Trafford had been playing well for a while.

“It was the kind of game where someone has to do something special and on that particular day it was him, if you’re going to get anything from these games.”
