It’s now the waiting game for Celtic and Kyogo Furuhashi.
Everyone is waiting for the final details to be verified as Kyogo leaves Celtic and the Glasgow giants embark on a new chapter.
The Japan superstar made goal-scoring look easy, therefore the next guy in his shoes will face a difficult task.
Not only did Kyogo score a large number of goals (85 in Celtic colours), but he also scored in the most important games, with eight versus Rangers alone.
Celtic face Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday night, although the match will not accurately reflect how Brendan Rodgers would line up his forwards due to the personnel available to him.
You suspect Adam Idah will start at Villa Park, but he isn’t expected to replace Kyogo after he leaves.
Daizen Maeda backed to replace Kyogo Furuhashi up top for Celtic
Daizen Maeda is suspended for Celtic’s match against Villa, but it would have been interesting to see how Rodgers would have set up if he had been available.
Despite Celtic’s high-profile signing of Idah, who had a significant impact against Young Boys, Scott Allan believes Maeda is the ‘natural’ fit up top, according to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
Of course, if Rodgers brings in that number nine in the transfer market, Maeda will return to his customary role, but even with Idah at the club, Allan believes the £1.6 million signing under Postecoglou is a better fit as a striker.
“There is no doubt that Kyogo will be going with all Celtic fans’ best wishes,” Allan told reporters.
“Some of the highlights he’s provided them throughout the years and in major games. A striker I would have liked to have played alongside. Extremely intelligent and a continual menace.
“For me, as they seek for another striker, I believe Maeda will play down the middle. “That front three (including Jota) could be extremely dangerous for Celtic.”
Maeda’s numbers for Celtic
One thing is certain: Maeda has made tremendous progress under Rodgers, and it could be claimed that he is playing his greatest football under the Irishman.
Not only is the all-action forward more consistent up front, but he is also scoring huge goals, as evidenced by Celtic’s League Cup final victory against Rangers last month.
That’s 15 goals for the Japan star, five more than he scored last season, four more than the previous season, and seven more than when he initially arrived.
