Derek McInnes wowed by what Philippe Clement has done, shares ‘tough’ Rangers admission

Derek McInnes has admitted he enjoys the way Philippe Clement plays ahead of the Rangers game against Kilmarnock on Wednesday (28 February).

The Killie manager stated during his pregame press conference (via BBC Sport, February 27) that the Gers are “far more robust” now than they were on the first day of the season when they were defeated at Rugby Park.

He continued by saying that the Light Blues are straightforward, uncomplicated, and well-organized. However, he anticipates it to be a “tough game” against the SPL leaders since he thinks his team can cause issues when they play in East Ayrshire.

McInness praised the present manager, saying, “The biggest compliment I can give him is that even with a lot of the players that played that day, there’s far more robustness about Rangers.” They possess a certain strength and a particular level of confidence.

“They have a surety about them today, whereas perhaps their performance that day [the August defeat] was a little uncertain. You are aware of what to expect. I genuinely enjoy the way he plays; it’s straightforward, uncomplicated, and organized, and you can see the attention to detail in both their in- and out-of-possession efforts.

They believe they are nothing that they are not. They take long-range shots, play forward, pose questions, and place balls inside the box. You have to be able to resist them when they try to manipulate you.

“We anticipate a challenging match, but if we can play close to our normal selves, I think we’ll give the Rangers a difficult game as well. We believe there is a performance in us that can upset Rangers and cause Rangers problems.”
