Aston Villa stand in the way of club’s desire to sign player – Emery and Monchi have all the power

The Italian media is gradually picking up steam over AC Milan’s interest in Clement Lenglet.

Due to his lack of playing time at Aston Villa, we have already covered a few rumors this week that suggest Barcelona has spoken with the Rossoneri about ending his loan agreement.

It’s now Milan News who features a new story on this chase, this time confirming that Lenglet is a target for Milan.

The outlet makes it clear the situation isn’t ‘entirely clear’, as it’s not yet known whether Aston Villa would be willing to let him return early in January.

Even if Unai Emery and Monchi do accept that Lenglet returns to Barcelona, meaning they currently hold all the power, the Catalan side would still need to agree a deal with Milan.

In order to make the transfer, the Rossoneri would first like to offer the player a pay cut and a loan with a buyout option.

Aston Villa, who have only deployed Lenglet five times this season—all in the Conference League—seem to be in control of the majority of the situation.
