Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim delivers Marcus Rashord hint vs Ipswich and wants Roy Keane meeting
It is now the day of Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United game as manager.
More over three weeks have passed since the Portuguese coach was brought to Old Trafford, and now fans will get their first look at how the team will be organised under their new manager. Despite having a contract that expires in 2027, Amorim intends to start strong against Ipswich Town.
Amorim acknowledged that he is “anxious” yet “very excited” for his first game, adding to the excitement around his debut. That will undoubtedly reflect the sentiments of away fans at Portman Road and globally.
Roy Keane meeting
There are still more Manchester United greats that Ruben Amorim has to get to know, and he is especially eager to meet former captain Roy Keane.
The new manager is eager to carve out his own route at Old Trafford and is not in a rush to consult Sir Alex Ferguson, but Amorim already has Gary Neville urging him to set up the first meal between himself and Keane.
In conversation with Salford City owner Neville, Amorim admitted he would like to link up with the ex-Republic of Ireland international. The United coach was full of praise for the pundit who will be present for his first match.
“He was a player that I really liked,” said Amorim. “I know he’s a little bit crazy! But he was a massive player and I like players with character.
“It was not just what Roy Keane did on the pitch, it was the way he influenced the others. I think that is very important. You must have this kind of player in the big clubs and I hope we’ll have, in the future, players like Roy Keane.”
Marcus Rashford hint
Restoring Marcus Rashford to his peak performance will be at the top of Amorim’s list of priorities, as United’s management hopes to improve the fortunes of several players at Old Trafford.
It seems Rashford is being trained for a more central role with an emphasis on attack, even though Amorim may have asked wingers to switch to wing-backs during his reign. It appears that he will also be used against Ipswich.
According to the Manchester United website, “Rashy is training very well,” Amorim said. “It’s fortunate that he will be prepared on Sunday because he can play all three positions up front.”
Transfer plan
This summer, Amorim is expected to compete for Viktor Gyokeres’ services. The 39-year-old has made the Sporting Lisbon attacker, valued at £65 million, his top summer target.
