Sources: Aston Villa to reject ‘£100million’ Douglas Luiz offer

Football Insider has been informed by insiders that Aston Villa is “adamant” that they will not trade Douglas Luiz in January and will turn down any deal.

Editor Wayne Veysey of Football Insider said in an interview with the Inside Track podcast that the Villans believe losing the Brazilian midseason would be “too disruptive.”

Luiz is Arsenal’s top target for 2024, according to Football Insider, and former team Man City is also showing interest in him.

Football Insider was informed by sources that Villa currently values 25-year-old Luiz as a player worth at least £100 million, based on the nine-figure transactions of Declan Rice to Arsenal, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea.

When it comes to those three defensive midfielders who made mega-money signings in 2023, they see Luiz as being on par.

However, Luiz is too crucial for Unai Emery’s team to let go of, and they have always felt that way, even before their recent amazing play.

The midfielder has been in stellar form this season, notching six goals and four assists in all competitions.

He has been a mainstay at Villa Park after featuring in every game for his side and racking up 1975 minutes across 25 appearances.

Luiz was a key player in Villa’s incredible resurgence since Emery replaced Steven Gerrard in the dugout in October last year and bagged match-winning goals against Tottenham and Brighton at the end of last season to secure a spot in the Europa Conference League.

Villa have secured back-to-back victories over title-chasing Arsenal and Man City in their last two Premier League fixtures.

Their third-place position in the table puts them firmly in the race to secure Champions League qualification.

Only three league losses have they experienced this season, and those losses came against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Liverpool, three other teams vying for European supremacy.

After a 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar, Villa finished their Conference League group stage at the top of Group E. On Sunday, December 17, they will travel to play Brentford.

Also, according to sources, Aston Villa’s owners plan to finance a major January signing spree.
