Former Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen took the headlines in Brentford’s 4-2 defeat at West Ham United on Monday night, but another ex-Tigers star Keane Lewis-Potter put in a very solid showing for the Bees.

David Moyes had his squad pumped up from the off with Jarred Bowen (who briefly played alongside Lewis-Potter at Hull) scoring twice for his side within the opening 10 minutes.

The visitors narrowed the gap soon after when Ivan Toney’s pass found Lewis-Potter. The 23-year-old then played in Neal Maupay to blast into the roof of Alphonse Areola’s net.

Lewis-Potter was being deployed in a more unfamiliar right-wing back role at London Stadium, a position that the player revealed after the game he is still “getting used to”.

Despite being at right wing-back, Lewis-Potter’s pass to Maupay was his first assist of the season – something Mikkel Damsgaard also achieved when he came off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa late on.

In total, Lewis-Potter made three important passes in the game, more than any other player in his squad with only Emerson – whose amazing goal effectively secured the victory – having more for West Ham (4).

Lewis-Potter’s overall passing was good with a success rate of 85 per cent and the player was involved in much of Brentford’s action having 73 touches in total (the fourth most of any Brentford player and more than all but two of the Hammers).

Even with Lewis-Potter playing slightly wider and deeper in his new role, he still managed two attempts on target in the game, the same number as Ivan Toney. Only Jarrod Bowen had more efforts on target with all three of the England international’s on-target efforts culminating in a goal.

While Lewis-Potter was undoubtedly Brentford’s greatest player on the pitch it’s worth pointing out the shift Sergio Reguilón put in on the left wing.

The on-loan defender had a tough evening against the energetic Mohammed Kudus but made more tackles (7) than anyone on the pitch while also supplying support whenever he got a chance to push forward.

In fact, Reguilón has been one of the Premier League’s most prolific tacklers this season. The Spaniard has only made six appearances since signing on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January having spent the start of the season at Manchester United.

But from those six games, Reguilón is averaging an impressive 3.5 tackles per game – just two players average more this season: Vinícius Souza (3.9) and João Palhinha (4.8).

One final thing to take from this game is the two goals that Brentford did score and the fact that it was almost more in the final minutes of the game.

Ivan Toney had a tough night competing with Kurt Zouma and Kostas Mavropanos but had two wonderful chances in stoppage-time that, had they gone in, could have set up a show-stopping climax.
