Update on Dak Prescott contract talks with the Dallas Cowboys

Before the new league season begins next month, the Dallas Cowboys will need to fork out the dough to extend star quarterback Dak Prescott at some point.

The 30-year-old Prescott will count a massive $59.46 million against the NFL salary cap in 2024. Dallas must become cap compliant because it is currently $3.23 million over.

The relationship between Prescott and the Cowboys is undoubtedly complex. They recently suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers during the NFL Wild Card Playoffs. Prescott had a difficult game in that defeat following an outstanding regular season. That comprised a pick-six and two interceptions.

Stats for Dak Prescott in 2023: 69.5% completion percentage, 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions

Here, the question is quite self-evident. To what extent are the Cowboys prepared to contribute? Between a rock and a hard place, they find themselves. Prescott is the only one with negotiating leverage. In theory, he could get even with the Cowboys.

While all of this is going on, Dallas also needs to think about inking pass rusher Micah Parsons and standout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to long-term contracts. Owner Jerry Jones and company are in a difficult predicament.
