Despite starting the match without a victory in this competition, John McGreal’s team earned their first three points in Group F.
Tommy Taylor scored his eighth goal of the season from the penalty spot in the fourth minute to give Town the lead.
Although both teams had opportunities during the first half, the score was still 1-0 at the interval.
The youthful Blues were reduced to ten men in the 77th minute as Abube Onuchukwu received a straight red card for a foul the referee deemed dangerous. Five minutes earlier, the midfielder had entered as a substitute.
But three minutes later, Rio Morgan’s right-wing free kick found the head of captain Jacob Mazionis, who was left unmarked to nod in from close range, doubling Town’s lead.
Town moved up to second place in their group after winning in Wales’ extremely rainy conditions.
When they visit Swansea City at Playford Road on Monday, December 2, they return to league action.
Town U21s: Gray, Babb Jambang, Mazionis (C), O’Connor, Roberts (O Davis), Okunowo (Onuchukwu), Carr, Mendel-Idowu (Morgan), Boatswain, Taylor.
