“One of Rangers’ big fears” – Ibrox chiefs now worried “special” talent will leave the club

Rangers chiefs are worried that “special” player will leave this summer.

Journalist Dean Jones claims that upper management at Rangers is concerned that a “special” Ibrox player would want to leave the team during the summer transfer window.

News about Rangers transfers

The Gers are still dominating the Scottish Premiership this year, as evidenced by their 5-0 thumping of Hearts on Saturday, which keeps them two points clear of the leaders.

Whatever transpires before the season ends, though, new players must be added during the summer transfer window in order for Philippe Clement to have players that fit his system and demands and advance his squad.

Oscar Cortes joined Rangers on loan from Lens back in January, but according to new sources, if he performs well in the upcoming season, Rangers plan to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The attacker, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract at Bramall Lane expires at the end of the season, is Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie, who is also considered as a potential addition to the Gers’ assault to make it more formidable.

However, it is equally crucial that Clement maintains his grasp on key present players, and a significant update has just been released over one significant Ibrox hero.

Rangers executives are concerned. Todd Cantwell is going to depart.

Even though Todd Cantwell seems content at the club right now, Jones told Give Me Sport that Rangers executives are worried that he would depart this summer.

“I believe Cantwell is enjoying his time at the Rangers, at least it appears so. If he left the club in the summer, I would be shocked. Naturally, though, one of Rangers’ biggest concerns will be that Premier League teams would consider his circumstances and choose to make a significant financial offer. Considering how good he has occasionally played, it’s most definitely not out of the question.”

Given the progress Cantwell has made since joining Rangers on a permanent basis from Norwich City last year, it is alarming to think that the club may lose him this summer.

The 25-year-old is a hard-working player who gives his all for the team. He has added technical quality in midfield and the ability to hold the ball in tight spaces. In the Championship in 2023–24, a total of five goals and three assists in the middle of the park is a respectable result, and in the past, Gary Cockaday, the coach of his old youth squad, has praised him as a “special” prospect.

Cantwell does seem content at Rangers, as Jones suggests, so a move elsewhere would probably come as a shock, but there is cause for concern that a return to England would turn his head.

The Englishman may decide that Ibrox is the ideal place for him to go after this season’s Scottish Premiership success, and he will undoubtedly be a key player in any future success the team has after he returns from injury.
