Rangers: Kris Boyd names five Ibrox stars in Team of the Week, one Celtic player makes cut

Following Hearts’ 5-0 thumping at Ibrox, Kris Boyd has selected five Rangers players for his Scottish Premiership Team of the Week.

On Saturday, February 24, the Gers put on their greatest performance of the season to maintain their incredible run of play under Philippe Clement and to stay two points ahead of Celtic.

Oscar Cortes, Cyriel Dessers, and Mohamed Diomande all scored goals, and Boyd’s squad was named for The Scottish Sun [26 February].

Along with the team, John Lundstram was awarded star man of the weekend, with influential skipper James Tavernier receiving recognized as the other recipient.

Kris Boyd’s Team of the Week for January signings is dominated by Rangers. Diomande and Cortes gave Rangers the early advantage against Hearts, extending their outstanding starts at Ibrox.

Dessers, who many would have been happy to see replaced ahead of the January window, also added a couple of goals to his growing tally.

Fabio Silva was also on the scoresheet – his third goal in eight games for the Gers – but he did not make the cut in Boyd’s team.

Following his heroics in Sunday’s late 3-1 victory over Motherwell, Adam Idah of Celtic was also acknowledged (25 February).

Boyd may be accused of prejudice by some, but following the masterclass against Hearts, every one of the 11 players on this team could have been a representation of the Gers.

Clement is unstoppable at the moment, whether it is with the players he has added to the team or just getting more out of those who are already there.

In unrelated Rangers news, Robbie Savage called Chris Sutton “pathetic” when he was questioned about the ambitions the Gers had for winning the championship.
