‘We have a problem’ – Southampton release official statement before Newcastle United clash

After a terrible performance against Bournemouth last Saturday, Eddie Howe’s team is looking to recover. The Magpies’ nine-game winning streak came to an abrupt end as they fell 4-1.

As the bottom-ranked team in the Premier League, Southampton offers Newcastle the ideal chance to recover. Whether the Saints will surpass Derby County’s miserable 11-point record from 2007–08 is starting to be questioned by analysts.

Newcastle have Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles sidelined but are buoyed by Nick Pope’s return. That does, however, pose a selection dilemma between the sticks for Howe.

Speaking before the game, Southampton boss Juric confirmed that four first-team stars will miss out. While three are injured, the fixture has come too early for January arrival Grønbæk.

“At this moment we are a little bit more optimistic (about Dibling),” Juric said. “We will see next week. Next week we can say something more. He (Sulemana) won’t play against Newcastle as he has a little injury. He has a little problem with his hamstring and our medical staff are worried about that because he had problems in the past.

“I hope it’s nothing, and he’ll begin training with the team on Monday.” Albert Grønbaek has arrived as a loan, and we should consider him for a period of six months.

He has just practiced with us once today, so I believe the next game will be more likely. We had an issue with the goalie, Rambo (Ramsdale). We’ll find out tomorrow what he did on the training field yesterday. I’m hoping he’ll be alright.
