Blackburn Rovers chief executive Steve Waggott has revealed that the club is still actively seeking to add to their roster during the January transfer window, as injuries have taken their toll on John Eustace’s side.
Eustace, Rovers’ manager, expressed interest in adding more players to the squad to improve their clinical edge up front, following a 2-0 defeat to Coventry City in midweek.
Waggott, one of the top brass at Ewood Park, has expressed a desire to increase the team’s attacking threat and overall performance.
This month’s injury problems have prompted Lancashire to seek reinforcements to maintain their top-six position.
Steve Waggott gives Blackburn Rovers transfer update
There will have been rising fears about Rovers recently, with more and more players leaving as the hardships and tribulations of a Championship season wore on.
Eustace are short-handed for their upcoming match against Bristol City due to injuries to Callum Brittain, Danny Batth, and Joe Rankin-Costello. The team has only won once in their previous eight league games.
With their lead in the top six slipping week by week, Waggott provided the following update on new arrivals between now and the transfer deadline on February 3, indicating that there would be plenty of activity in the coming days.
“The aim has always been to look at improving the attacking threat of the team,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“However, with injuries incurred since the turn of the year, we are now looking at other prospective places and available choices until our injured players can return to full fitness.
“As is always the case during this very limited January winter window, most clubs are looking for the same areas of improvement, but we will continue to pursue our list of targets in the hope that we can secure players to add strength and depth to this hard-working and honest group of players for the remainder of the season.”
Blackburn Rovers actively looking for more January arrivals
Rovers have only signed two new players since the beginning of the year. Adam Forshaw joined from Plymouth Argyle to strengthen the midfield, while Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson will provide competition at back.
The club has been linked with many players this month, including Augustus Kargbo, a summer target, and Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder from Nottingham Forest.
Brandon Thomas-Asante and Lamare Bogarde were connected with a move to Ewood Park this winter, but those two appear to be dead in the water, as the search for new blood in the changing room continues.
David Dunn, a Rovers icon, has recently expressed his desire for more players to join the club. Waggott’s report is encouraging, as there are hints of increased transfer activity.
