Starting XI: Is this Regis Le Bris’s Sunderland team that will take on Plymouth today?

Regis Le Bris returned Elizier Mayenda to the team on Tuesday night at Derby, replacing Patrick Roberts, who was rested. Mayenda scored the winning goal, thus it appears doubtful that he will be moved to the bench, leaving a clear choice between Chris Rigg and Roberts. Plymouth are coming off a humiliating defeat at home to Burnley, so you would expect them to come up here to spoil the game, get behind the ball, and be difficult to beat. This is how I believe we will line up today.Goalkeeper: Anthony Patterson

Same again in goal today – I thought Patterson won us points on Tuesday with a couple of excellent saves.

Defence: Trai Hume, Chris Mepham, Luke O’Nien, Dennis Cirkin

Currently, the back four picks itself. Trai Hume was outstanding on Tuesday and demonstrated a return to form, whereas Cirkin is gradually regaining the form that had everyone talking about him earlier in the season. In the middle, Mepham and O’Nien will continue their relationship; O’Nien’s ball carrying and development from the back could be critical today in creating overloads that can assist us break through a team that will most likely have 10 or 11 men on the ball.

Midfield: Patrick Roberts, Dan Neil, Jobe, Enzo Le Fee

Chris Rigg set up the goal on Tuesday, although accidently, but I believe he will sit out this one to allow Roberts to come back in. I know Roberts is polarising, but I believe we are a better team with him on the pitch, therefore in a game like tonight, where we need to attack and win, he will most certainly start. Dan Neil and Jobe will be teamed in the centre, while Enzo will start on the left but should be given free reign to go anywhere he wants to impact the match.

Attackers: Wilson Isidor and Elizier Mayenda. I think we’ll go two up forward today and try to take the game to Plymouth. Mayenda and Isidor both have to start, and Mayenda is significantly more effective in the centre than on the left. This line-up does, however, allow us to push Le Fee more centrally and Mayenda out wide if necessary, and we’re likely to see a different shape off the ball than we do on it.
