Mikel Arteta sends warning to Newcastle after ‘disgrace’ claim

Arsenal v Newcastle United: Mikel Arteta has looked ahead to Saturday’s Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are looking for revenge when they face Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday (8pm kick-off).

After three different VAR checks, Arteta called Newcastle’s decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s game-winning goal a “disgrace” after Newcastle defeated The Gunners 1-0 at St. James’ Park in November. There was controversy surrounding the Magpies’ previous visit to the Emirates Stadium as well. Arteta believed his team should have been given two penalties in the 0-0 draw in January 2023.

In his press conference prior to the game, the Spaniard stated, “There is always a history with every club.” “What happened previously and what will happen tomorrow are constants in life. We merely concentrate on our tasks since we are aware of how important the game is.

Mikel Arteta sends Arsenal warning to Newcastle United after 'disgrace' claim

“I could sense in the dressing room straight away that we wanted to play the next day. After that defeat [at Newcastle], that feeling that you get, I’m sure that when they come back in an hour or two I’m going to be seeing that desire again.”

Since 2010, Newcastle has not defeated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and they have not won both the league titles against the North London team since the 1994–1995 campaign. The Magpies have gained seven points from their last four meetings with Arteta’s team, who are now in third place in the Premier League, despite their inability to defeat teams like leaders Liverpool and second-place Manchester City under Howe.

Arteta conceded, “[Newcastle] are a really good team.” They have outstanding players and excellent coaching. They are tough for us and many, many opponents to defeat because of their strong team spirit.”
