Five months after signing on loan, Ryan Mmaee, a Stoke City expatriate, is finally back in full training as he prepares to make his Rapid Vienna debut.
Although the 27-year-old attacker joined Stoke from Ferencvaros in early September, he has yet to play in Austria due to back-to-back thigh ailments, which also plagued him the previous season.
Kurier reports that he “could not and did not want to be held back any longer,” despite the Vienna press claiming that the club has been “particularly cautious” in putting his body through its paces during training. It continues: “He has promptly shown why those in charge are convinced about the loan deal even after five months without playing.”
Dion Beljo, a quick midfielder, stated: “Ryan has a special flair in his game, very interesting.”
Donis Avdijaj, who currently plays for Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga after playing with Mmaee for Limassol in Cyprus, told the newspaper: “He was our best player in attack.”
Before relocating to Cyprus and subsequently Hungary, where he was signed by Stoke in the summer of 2023, Mmaee made his senior debut with Standard Liege in Belgium. He also played for Beveren and Aarhus in Denmark. He has a deal with bet365 Stadium through 2026.
The next game for Rapid is against Armstetten at home on Saturday, February 1. They are now in third place, eight points behind league leaders Sturm Graz.
