Keith Wyness reacts to Kieran Tierney hijack at Celtic – ‘all of a sudden…’
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the 27-year-old’s agent may be drumming up other interest in a bid to extract a bigger wage from the Hoops. Football Insider revealed on 30 December that Celtic are working on a deal to sign Arsenal full-back Tierney on a pre-contract deal this month.
Six years after leaving Parkhead for the Premier League, his contract at the Emirates Stadium is about to expire at the end of this season.
But the Scotland international has also been frequently associated with Fenerbahce, a Turkish powerhouse.
Wyness asserted that the Celtic academy product’s return home would be “the best move for all parties.”
He stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “I believe he would be better suited returning to Celtic.
Both he and the supporters would be content. Fenerbahce isn’t the appropriate position for him at the moment, in my opinion.
Playing for Celtic would be the finest option for his Scotland career.
“Fenerbahce would have the financial advantage, but I doubt it would be significantly greater than what Celtic would provide.
“It seems to me that his representative might have suddenly discovered interest, which does frequently occur at the last minute during negotiations.
“I continue to believe that he will join Celtic because it’s the best course of action for everyone.”
