If points are subtracted, Celtics could surpass Rangers to win the championship; else, they might suffer the same fate as Everton.

How many points Celtic and Rangers need to win the Premiership title

The Scottish Premiership is still being fought over at the top by Celtic and Rangers. With only two points separating the two teams at this point, the title race has proven to be thrilling thus far. Earlier in the season, Brendan Rodgers’ team appeared to be cruising, but the introduction of Philippe Clement altered the dynamics of the championship fight.

There’s still plenty of drama to be had in the title race, but as it moves into the final months, we’ve compiled the data from the previous ten title races to see how many points each title winner—mostly Celtic—has averaged, and—perhaps more importantly—how many points it has averaged to win the title over the previous ten years.

1. 2022–2023 – 99 Celtic Points attained; 93 Points required

2. Celtic (2021–2022)
90 points are needed. 93 points were earned.

3. 2020–2021 Rangers: 102 points were earned; 78 points were required.

4. 2019–20: 80 Celtic points were earned; 68 points were required.
