Rangers defeated St Johnstone to take the lead in the Scottish Premiership for the first time this season. However, the Ibrox team will be without the very effective Todd Cantwell for three to four weeks due to a hamstring injury.
Rangers’ players are not under any more pressure, according to Philippe Clement, despite leading the Scottish Premiership standings.
With maximum points in 16 of their 18 games under the Belgian coach, the Ibrox team leads Celtic by two points.
The club has seen significant upheaval; prior to Michael Beale’s dismissal, they were 10 points behind the winners, which made for an exciting season finale.
The Gers will take on Hearts in their first of seven games before the split, which also includes an Old Firm match at Ibrox on April 7 on Sky Sports. Despite leading, Clement says the team’s strategy will remain the same on Saturday.
“I started in the first team when I was 17 and I had the luck to play in a lot of teams that played for titles,” he stated.
“I’ve found myself in that predicament numerous times. It is about looking at oneself, not about looking at other people, not about looking forward or backward.
“We are not going to stop doing what we have been doing, just as we weren’t focused on looking forward a few weeks ago. We are not at all concerned with looking back.
There’s no pressure on me in this group. I have a strong sense of hunger, desire, willpower, motivation, and training quality.
“Until the end of the season, that is how we will proceed. The number of points that other teams have truly doesn’t interest me. All we need to do is aim high and attempt to win every game. It all comes down to.”
weeks without Cantwell as Roofe comes back
Todd Cantwell, a talented midfield player, suffered a hamstring injury, which could sideline him for up to four weeks for Rangers.
“Of course, that is a disappointment for him, for the team, because he was in really good form,” said Clement. “However, those things are a part of football, and we have dealt with them in the past few months as well.
It is up to the other players to step up and behave morally for the team. Conversely, Kemar [Roofe] worked out with the group a couple times this week.
“He will definitely not play a half or anything, but he will be back in the squad. It won’t last long, but near the conclusion of the match, you could want to use his goal-scoring prowess and expertise to insert him into the action.”
With Shankland and Hearts in form, Clement was ready.
Because of Lawrence Shankland’s outstanding play, Hearts have won eight straight games and haven’t lost any of their previous 12 matches.
The Scotland international striker, who has scored eighteen goals in the league this season, has been strongly linked to Rangers, and Clement says his players must be cautious around him and his teammates.
“We’ve already played four times,” he declared. A very skilled and well-organized team, they rely on a pivotal player for most of their goals, and they have scored over half of their total.
“They have the third-best defense in the league as of right now, demonstrating their organizational skills and willingness to wait for the right opportunity.
