A 21-year-old man on trial for murder of Northampton man Tommy Boom did ‘absolutely nothing’ and ‘just sat on that bench,’ according to his barrister.
Tommy Boom’s murder trial concluded today (Tuesday) with the final closing statement to the jury.
Daniel Larman and Kieran Okocha-Sleight, both 21, from Birmingham, but residing at Paget House in Kings Heath and distributing heroin and crack cocaine in Northampton, are on trial for Mr Boom’s murder.
Mr Boom perished at Miller’s Meadow in Semilong on July 18, shortly after midnight, having being fatally stabbed by Larman with a huge hunting knife he purchased in a town centre shop.
Prosecutor Gordon Aspden KC, on behalf of the Crown, claims Okocha-Sleight was ‘consciously providing support and backup to Larman’ and so guilty of murder.
Yesterday (Monday), Mr Aspden stated: “We believe that by being present at the park and involved in drug dealing through their joint venture selling heroin and crack, he was intentionally providing support and backup to Daniel Larman.”
“He was aware of Daniel Larman’s knife and realized that, if necessary, Larman would use it against anyone who stood in their path. Kieran Okocha-Sleight thus agreed to use the knife in their joint venture, similar to the man in the getaway car when a handgun is used in a heist. It was a vicious business. Violence and the carrying of guns are integral to this type of drug dealing.
However, Chris Henley KC, defending Okocha-Sleight, who was sitting in the dock wearing an Adidas tracksuit, addressed the jury today, emphasizing his client’s innocence.
