Celtic eight-figure offer rejected for EPL ace as Rangers name ‘unaffordable’ asking price for forward
This weekend marks the return of Scottish Premiership competition after the midweek European matches. On Saturday, Celtic will play Dundee in an attempt to maintain and possibly increase their commanding advantage at the top of the table. With 19 victories out of a possible 23 thus far this season, the Hoops lead their closest competitors by an incredible 13 points. Rangers will try to bridge the obvious gap between them and their neighbors. To finish the Premiership weekend, they will have to go to Dens Park to play Dundee United. After returning from his most recent loan with Stockport County of the EFL League One, Louie Barry of Aston Villa has being targeted by Celtic. The 21-year-old has been drawing attention with his outstanding performances and has scored 15 goals in 23 games.
According to a recent rumor, the Hoops’ seven-figure opening bid for Barry was “set to test Villa’s resolve.” However, Celtic can no longer attain the rising star due to a recent update. Brendan Rodgers and company are “unlikely to reach” Aston Villa’s asking price, according to Football Insider. After add-ons, Celtic’s first bid of £5 million brought the total to £10 million, and the transaction included a buyback mechanism. However, as the Premier League team has thwarted Celtic’s attempts, this is insufficient to persuade them to cut ties with Barry.
According to the Daily Record’s earlier report, Villa “would prefer” to sign Barry to a new contract before letting him go on loan. The club will only allow a move to the EFL Championship, so the loan requirements are stringent. In addition to Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough, and Stoke City from the second division of England are expressing interest. Unless they receive an offer that is too good to turn down, Villa is reportedly “unwilling” to cash in on Barry this month.
Rangers’ asking price for a forward is deemed “unaffordable.”
After losing his regular starting spot under Philippe Clement, Cyriel Dessers has been connected to an exit for some time. Journalist Hugh MacDonald emphasized earlier this week that Rangers must reach a compromise in order to close a deal. Getting a buyer for him is going to be the biggest obstacle, MacDonald told PLZ Soccer. According to what I understand, he is paid a high salary, so unless Rangers can reach an agreement on a transfer fee or salary, he is rightfully refusing to join a team that might offer him 50–60% of what he is currently earning. Thus, that could be the main issue.
In fact, a further report from AS asserts that Rangers is now requesting a transfer fee that is “currently unaffordable” for Leganés, the interested party. Prior to this new January pursuit, the La Liga team had been linked to Dessers; however, after this setback at Ibrox, they are now “looking for other ways” to sign the 30-year-old forward. If Rangers do not lower their asking price, a loan until the end of the season now appears to be the most likely option.
