Hearts trio could still leave before January transfer deadline as interest remains

Yesterday, it was reported that Michael Steinwender had joined Hearts from IFK Varnamo. The central defender signed a three-and-a-half-year contract in Scotland.

After a cost was agreed upon with the Swedes last week, the Austrian had landed in Edinburgh over the weekend before passing a physical and concluding the agreement.

Sander Kartum, who also came to the capital from Norway and his club team Brann, is now anticipated to become the fourth Jambos acquisition.

The 29-year-old, who has a respectable goal and assist record for the club that placed second in the Eliteserien, will cost the Tynecastle outfit £320,000.

These come after defender Jamie McCart and attacker Elton Kabangu were added earlier in the transfer window.

According to manager Neil Critchley, departures are also a possibility because the team is too large.

In an attempt to gain more playing time, young midfielder Macaulay Tait is scheduled to go on loan to Livingston, but there may be more.

Yutaro Oda and Barrie McKay are two players who have been completely absent from Gorgie’s lineup and haven’t even been on the bench in recent games.

They would therefore be strong contenders to leave, and Critchley has already acknowledged that both of them may depart Hearts this month.

Ryan Stevenson, a former Jambo, asked the team to bid the two farewell and meet them later.

There hasn’t been much discussion about Oda or McKay’s possible destinations as the window draws to a close, but according to the Edinburgh Evening News, both might still go on and are drawing interest from both the UK and outside.

Like McKay, midfielder Jorge Grant has returned to the starting lineup and has drawn interest from England. More importantly, though, his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

New York City FC and Portsmouth are interested in Cammy Devlin.

Or will they be completed following Kartum’s signing?

After speaking with Danny Armstrong and Islam Chesnokov, they will probably continue their efforts to sign a winger.

If those two don’t work out, the Jambos reportedly have other options they might pursue.

Beyond that, any deviations from the four listed could allow for the addition of further quality.

Since McKay probably makes a lot of money, there may be room for future agreements.

Additionally, there would be a gap in the middle of the pitch and perhaps a need for another central midfielder if Devlin and/or Grant were to depart.
