Sky Sports: West Brom now want 23 y/o striker as Al-Hamadi move breaks down

After a transfer for Ipswich Town forward Ali Al-Hamadi fell through, West Bromwich Albion is now looking to add a new striker.

Following the announcement of Tony Mowbray’s return to the Baggies last week, the 61-year-old managed his first Championship match on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough.

However, the Baggies and Mowbray’s plans didn’t work out as they lost 2-0 at the Riverside, which moved the home team up in the standings.

Following the game, Mowbray stated: “On Saturday, we have Portsmouth at home and Plymouth away. We’ll be right back up there if we take all the points away from them.

“The reality is that we need to score a few goals,” the manager said in response to West Brom’s road struggles in the final third. And that’s nothing new. In the last third, it’s about accepting accountability. Perhaps it has to do with confidence. At the end, there was one that simply required someone.

The first goal was a little underwhelming. The shot bounced in front of the goalie after coming from thirty yards away. Then a second goal from outside the box gave us a sucker punch. However, they seemed a little more menacing than we did.

The deadline of February 3 is quickly approaching, therefore those at The Hawthorns have limited time to strengthen Mowbray’s team through the transfer market.

West Brom was interested in Ipswich striker Al-Hamadi and seems to be close to signing Northern Ireland international Isaac Price from Standard Liege.

According to Stuart Watson, a medical was scheduled and a contract was supposedly reached, but the move has now fallen through since West Brom wants a permanent transfer. Other targets

According to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas in their transfer blog, West Brom are one of three clubs keen to sign St Gallen striker Willem Geubbels on loan. As well as the Baggies, Leeds United and Norwich City are named as potential destinations for Geubbels, who has been on the books of Lyon and AS Monaco during his career. A France youth international, Geubbels has been impressing this season in Switzerland with St Gallen and has scored nine goals in all competitions. The 23-year-old could now be on the move to England and potentially West Brom before the deadline, making this one to keep an eye on.
