49ers Charvarius Ward announces successful surgery on unknown injury..

You never know what a player is going through while on the field, with Charvarius Ward taking care of an injury after a long 2023 season.

The San Francisco 49ers cornerback confirmed Thursday that he undergone successful surgery. Ward didn’t specify what the injury was, simply that “surgery was a breeze”.

Other members of 49ers media feel it was a core muscle ailment. Ward got the operation at Vincera Institute, a medical center in Philadelphia that specializes in soft-tissue problems.

Ward was hindered by a groin condition for much of the season, on and off the injury report. The procedure, apparently, intended to rectify the injury.

Charvarius Ward, 27, had a breakout season on the 49ers, making his first All-Pro team in his career. He ended the regular season with five interceptions and 24 pass breakups. He was also lights out in the Super Bowl, allowing zero catches and zero targets in 55 snaps. Alongside teammate 49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir, Ward has established a formidable secondary duo that started to blossom down the stretch.

The Mississippi native inked a three-year, $40.5 million agreement with the Red & Gold during the 2022 offseason. Ward has played above his contract value, becoming an All-Pro on the 12th-highest CB salary per year in the NFL. 2024 will be the penultimate year of his current deal, with both sides expected to explore an extension in the foreseeable future.

Ward is the third 49ers player to announce an injury following the season. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead played through a damaged meniscus since Week 13, while fellow DL Javon Hargrave played with a torn ligament in his thumb during the Super Bowl.
