Officers responding to a reported shooting on Brookside Avenue around 6:20 p.m. discovered a girl and a male with gunshot wounds in an apartment building, according to Worcester police. The female was pronounced dead on the scene.

“How tragic. So tragic. It’s just frustrating to learn that such incidents have occurred so close to our building,” remarked neighbor Rachel Beejjani.

Investigators were spotted examining the crime scene Friday afternoon, entering and exiting the building while wearing protective shoe covers.

The incident is still under investigation. No arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Friday.

“People are naturally concerned when such a violent incident occurs. I can say that it does not appear to be a random incident; it appears to be targeted, but obviously we want to get this person off the streets, and we’d like the public to help us do so,” said Worcester Police Lt. Sean Murtha.
