Al-Hamadi Deal Not Done But Baggies Want Permanent Switch
Al-Hamadi was with the Hawthorns club today to go through a medical and finish the paperwork for a loan swap, according to stories that circulated throughout the Midlands this morning.
We realize, though, that was exaggerating the situation, as the clubs have yet to reach an agreement on a transfer, and the Championship team is eager to acquire the former AFC Wimbledon player permanently rather than on loan, as had been proposed.
Although there is still a long way to go before the transfer is finalized, Al-Hamadi did visit for discussions with the team, which is currently led by former Blues captain and coach Tony Mowbray.
This season, the 22-year-old has been Town’s third-choice forward, but he has only started in the cup matches against Bristol Rovers and his old team, AFC Wimbledon.
Al-Hamadi was on the verge of joining Derby on loan during the summer, but the move fell through after Town withdrew their offer to buy Chelsea loanee Armando Broja.
Since the Blues are known to desire to add a more experienced frontman during this window, a move—either permanent or on loan—has always seemed likely in January.
Born in Iraq and raised in Liverpool Al-Hamadi cost almost £1 million to join Town from the Dons in January of last year. Since then, he has made 24 substitute appearances, scored five goals, and made three starts, including one in the league. In the Carabao Cup match against his former team at Plough Lane in August, he scored his lone goal of the season.
