How much Tommy Doyle earns a week at Wolves as Sheffield United eye move

Sheffield United are reportedly considering a sensational return for current Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle, who flourished on loan at Bramall Lane from Manchester City in the 2022/23 Championship campaign.

Following a productive half-season with relegation-threatened Cardiff City the previous season, Doyle signed a season-long loan deal with the red and white quarters of the Steel City and went on to play an important role in Paul Heckingbottom’s side achieving automatic promotion back to the Premier League while reaching an FA Cup semi-final.

Doyle scored 10 goals from central midfield before joining Premier League club Wolves on loan the following season, a transfer that was later made permanent in May for £4.3 million. However, the 23-year-old has struggled to get regular playing time this season, starting only three top-flight games and falling out of favour under new manager Vitor Pereira.

2023- Wolves (loan, made permanent in May 2024) 41 2 1

According to The Star, Doyle’s name is on a list of January targets for Chris Wilder, along with Hamza Choudhury and Shea Charles, with United embarking on a busy transfer window following the takeover of American-based consortium COH Sports, with new owners Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy making funds available to lead the Blades back to the big time at the end of the campaign.

United are desperately in need of more midfield options due to their injury crisis, and Doyle would fit the bill. However, Football League World has decided to take a slightly different approach and look at how much the former England youth international star is expected to earn in the West Midlands ahead of a possible exit this month…

Tommy Doyle’s estimated Wolves salary

FLW has received all listed data from Capology, a service which provides projected information on player salary.

Doyle’s anticipated wage at Wolves, it must be stated, comes come as a major surprise. That’s because he is thought to be paid just £10,000 per week, which, for a player who was signed from Man City and has made 43 top-flight appearances and counting, really isn’t that much.

The 23-year-old is among the lowest earners in Wolves’ team, which may suggest they may not be keen to get his pay off the books. Over a full year, Doyle’s earnings correspond to an annual gross salary of £520,000.

However, Doyle’s modest wage at Molineux may enable United negotiate a slightly unconventional deal for his services, since they will not have to break the bank and should now have more than enough financial strength to accomplish a move under new, and ambitious, ownership.

Doyle isn’t bothering Wolves’ top earners, and that may remain the case if he returns to Bramall Lane, unless he is handed a large wage raise that would triple his current contract.

Rhian Brewster is United’s highest-paid player, with the misfiring forward earning an estimated £35,000 each week. Meanwhile, Gus Hamer, Tom Davies, Anel Ahmedhodzic, and Vini Souza are all said to earn £30,000.

The great majority of Wilder’s players today earn between £15,000 and £30,000 per week, with only a few falling below that barrier.
