Glen Kamara reveals the unspoken Rangers title ambition as dressing room insider lifts the lid on Ibrox pal dream.

The former Light Blues star made the switch to Elland Road in the summer as part of former boss Michael Beale’s reconstruction.

Glen Kamara has disclosed that an old Rangers pal has admitted dreaming of lifting the title in front of the fans this year – and wants to see the same thing.

The former Light Blues player made the move to Elland Road in the summer as part of former boss Michael Beale’s – who has since been dismissed by Sunderland – rebuild with the midfielder moved down south to help fire his new club right back to the English Premier League.

Steven Gerrard took the midfielder to Ibrox in a bargain £90,000 deal after he had agreed a pre-contract to make the move to Govan from Dundee. The teams hashed out a sum to get the trade done quickly and it proved to be one of the best pieces of business for the Liverpool hero. Kamara starred at the top level for Rangers and was a major part of the legendary Europa League run all the way to the final in Seville while he was also instrumental in the title winning season that ended Celtic’s domestic domination in style.

The Light Blues are out to finish above Celtic once again this campaign and Kamara feels the top two will be divided by the final two Old Firm games with the destiny of the title depending on those two important 90 minute occasions. He is still in communication with his former team-mates and would want nothing more than to see them raise the trophy aloft in May. Not only for themselves but for the fans – who had to watch from afar the last time they won the title.

The current Rangers crop under Philippe Clement have recovered a huge points gap on Celtic and Brendan Rodgers to now sit at the league summit by two points. They are also poised to learn their Europa League final 16 opponents and with the League Cup already in the bag and a Scottish Cup run still on the go, it could be a memorable campaign in Govan.

And while Clement and his players believe they are taking matters one game at a time – Kamara admitted the chats behind the scenes are completely different. Speaking exclusively to Record Sport in partnership with Sky Bet, he revealed: “It would be great for Rangers to win the title in front of the fans.

“When we won, we couldn’t celebrate with the supporters, but they backed us in huge numbers throughout the season. I was speaking to one of my old team-mates the other day, and we were both praying that Rangers can accomplish it in front of the supporters.

“It’ll be a tough one, it’ll come down to the head-to-head games with Celtic, and it’ll be tight. I still maintain in contact and check up with them – there’s a good several boys I still chat to.”

Kamara will be hoping it is a reason for double celebration come the end of the current campaign with Leeds now occupying second spot in the English Championship with a crucial night against table leaders Leicester City to come on Friday under the lights at Elland Road. He confesses it has taken him longer than intended to adjust but he is now in the groove as he pinpointed the ONE significant similarity between his new team and Rangers.

He said: “My time at Leeds has been good – I’m enjoying it. It probably took me a bit of time to adjust in but I feel like I’ve settled in now and got to know all the players, the staff, and the fan base has been amazing as well, so I’m enjoying my time.

“I feel like it’s [the pressure to win] quite similar – obviously being at Rangers, there was no game you couldn’t not win. Every game had to be a win and in style, whether it be 3-0, 4-0, or 5-0. It didn’t matter who you were playing, and I feel it’s the same here [at Leeds]. The pressure is enormous yet we’re here, we must perform and do our duties.”

On that remarkable run in the Europa League knockout stages under Giovanni van Bronckhorst that ended with heartbreak in the final, he added: “Europa League nights are amazing over there. Home or away, the fans come in full effect — they’re just different than a league game. I really enjoyed them, I have a lot of wonderful memories there’s a lot of amazing wins in there, notably at Borussia Dortmund – I really enjoyed that run.”
