Co-op Opens First Store of 2025

The Co-op has opened its first new store of 2025 in Salford Quays, beginning off an ambitious year of rapid growth for the firm. The new store, located on the bottom floor of Anchorage Gateway, a 29-story residential building, is conveniently situated near the area’s media, education, and cultural hubs.

The Salford Quays shop is the first of up to 75 new Co-op locations scheduled for 2025. These will comprise company-owned and franchise stores, as well as 80 planned refurbishments to update existing locations. The program aims to strengthen the Co-op’s position as a leading convenience retailer while providing value to member-owners and their communities.

A Convenient and Sustainable Shopping Experience

The new Salford Quays location has a wide range of fresh and nutritious produce, food-to-go alternatives, Fairtrade items, an in-store bakery, and hot meals. Customers can also purchase award-winning wines and 100% British fresh meat, which is utilized in ready meals, pies, and sandwiches.

Member-owners benefit from increased value through lower prices on regularly purchased items. The store offers a Costa Coffee Express machine, PayPoint payment options, and an InPost locker for parcel collection and returns.

In accordance with the Co-op’s sustainability goals, the store has a soft plastic recycling station for items like crisp packets, bread bags, and pet food pouches.

Embracing Quick Commerce

The Salford Quays shop will serve as a hub for the Co-op’s quick commerce activities, allowing for speedy grocery delivery via partnerships with Just Eat, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo. Orders will be picked up fresh from the store and delivered to local homes and offices, assuring consumer convenience.

Rachel Hargreaves, Director of Property, Development and Estates at Co-op, emphasized the shop’s strategic importance, stating, “I am delighted to see Co-op’s first new store of 2025 launch.” As part of our convenience expansion strategy, we are looking to purchase new retail space, both freehold and leasehold, as well as maximize the potential of our existing estate.

“Our stores are designed to be a local destination, a community hub that combines high-quality products, value, bargains, and ethical retailing with fast online delivery, community involvement, and additional customer services. We have a clear focus on expanding our convenience business and improving the value we create and deliver to our member-owners and communities.”

Supporting the Salford Quays Community

The Salford Quays store will be open everyday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving locals, office workers, and visitors. Simon Williams, shop Manager at Co-op Salford Quays, expressed his excitement: “The entire team is excited to launch Co-op’s newest store and the first new store of the year.” We take pleasure in being able to provide quality, choice, extra services, and value that everyone can enjoy, and we are excited to welcome residents, office workers, and visitors to Salford Quays and everything it has to offer into Co-op’s new shop. We’re here to make a difference in our community while also providing convenient service and support.

Building on previous success.
Co-op already has a significant presence in Salford Quays, with stores in Media City (which opened in 2022) and Clippers Quay. The Anchorage Gateway facility builds on this success, solidifying the Co-op’s position as a major convenience retailer in the area.
