Even though there won’t be many commitments in the upcoming weeks, getting prospects on campus and connecting with 2026 prospects will be crucial as spring practice is about to end in less than two months.

Ohio State makes a five-star quarterback offer to 2026

Over the weekend, Ohio State extended an offer to 2026 five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel.

Smigiel is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback and as the 21st overall recruit by 247Sports. The top-ranked quarterback, Jared Curtis, is another player that Ohio State is pursuing.

The sophomore from Newbury Park, California, is already 6-foot-5 and weighs 205 pounds. He has a college
fit for a football player. Including Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA, and Washington, 247Sports reports that he has received 28 offers.

Four-star Brock Schott (No. 187 overall, No. 8 tight end) is scheduled to visit Columbus on March 28, according to 247Sports, indicating that Ohio State is targeting at least one tight end in the 2025 class. In an attempt to keep the Indiana product in the Midwest, the Buckeyes have scheduled a visit from him during spring practice.

A four-star tight end Nate Roberts is ranked No. 107 in the composite rankings and has three crystal ball predictions on 247Sports. He is ranked as Oklahoma’s No. 2 player and No. 4 tight end. According to On3, he will travel to Columbus on April 13 for the spring game.

Tuesday morning, a three-star offensive tackle is expected to pledge.

Matty Augustine, a three-star offensive lineman who is ranked No. 32 offensive tackle and No. 394 player in the 2025 class, is scheduled to announce his commitment on Tuesday morning.

It is generally anticipated that Augustine, a student at Greenwich, Connecticut’s Brunswick School, will select Notre Dame. However, the top five teams fighting for his services include Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. Safety Ethan Long, a teammate, has already selected Notre Dame, with Ohio State also being considered.

The Buckeyes would not suffer the greatest loss if Augustine were to go, but it does highlight the need for another offensive tackle to complement top 100 recruit Carter Lowe. David Sanders Jr. and Micah DeBose are still on Ohio State’s radar, but the team will need further commitments in the 2025 class, which is a very significant class for coach Justin Frye and staff.
