BREAKING: OL Matty Augustine commits to Notre Dame
Matty Augustine, a three-star offensive lineman in the Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School class of 2025, has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-7, 290-pounder chose the Fighting Irish over Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and a number of others.
Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School class of 2025 three-star offensive tackle Matt Augustine has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-7, 290-pounder chose the Fighting Irish over Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and a number of others.
Notre Dame’s top-ranked recruiting class received another boost on Tuesday. Augustine is Notre Dame’s commit number 17. Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff’s aggressive recruiting strategy has shown positive results, with the Irish nearing 20 commitments before March even begins.
“I just feel like, especially this visit, there were a couple of things that were really good,” Augustine told Kevin Sinclair of Irish Illustrated after his most recent Junior Day visit to Notre Dame. “Coach Rudolph had us meet with a couple of the (current) O-Linemen to ask them questions about the program, the culture, and the institution itself.
It was incredibly nice to hear it directly from some of the players. He also emphasizes the need of meeting the players in order to determine whether or not you would be a good fit in the room. However, the players must also determine whether you are a suitable match for the room.
Coach Rudolph also stated that the players were excellent, incredibly courteous, and appeared to be there for anything you needed. And coach Rudolph continued stressing that he coaches a lot, but even throughout practice, they’ll be coaching each other up, especially on the small stuff. So, the atmosphere in that room appears to be on a different level than in many of these other schools, which is very significant to me, especially having a close-knit O-Line room.
Another thing that stood out was my interactions with the other prospects and commits. It was great to converse with them, especially since so many of the guys had committed since my last visit, and I was just getting to know them better. It was wonderful to be able to develop a relationship with them during this process. “They’re all great guys.”
According to 247Sports, Augustine is just one point away from being ranked as a four-star prospect. He now has an 89 overall rating. He is the nation’s No. 32 offensive tackle and Connecticut’s No. 2 recruit. According to the industry-generated composite rankings, he is the country’s No. 394 overall player.
