Tony Mowbray speech to West Brom squad revealed after appointment
Tony Mowbray, the 61-year-old who was reappointed at The Hawthorns on January 17 after Carlos Corberan left for
Valencia on Christmas Day, gave an energising message to his team prior to the draw against Stoke, according to
Grady Diangana.
He watched the 1-1 draw against Stoke City from the stands as Diangana scored the equalising goal on 18 January at
The Hawthorns.
In quotes reported in the print edition of Daily Mirror Football (page 11, 20 January), the scorer shared what
Mowbray said pre-match: “He gave us words of advice. He was incredibly inspiring. He gave us a motivating speech
and encouraged us just to play the game and enjoy the game.
“He advised you to embrace your inner child, express yourself, and carry on with your childhood activities. His focus
was on assisting each player in becoming a better player.
Mowbray brings the feelgood factor back to West Brom
Mowbray’s appointment has restored the team’s positive vibes after he helped the team get promoted to the Premier
League in the 2007–08 season.
After the search for Corberan’s replacement dragged on and impacted any potential January transactions, supporters
were beginning to feel anxious.
Focus now turns to the play-off push, with the Baggies currently occupying the final spot for the end-of-season
showdown.
The Albion must make sure they can hold off Middlesbrough, who are breathing down their necks and tied for the
most points after 27 games.
Supporters of the Baggies will be sure they can accomplish that and push for Premier League football the following
season with Mowbray in the dugout.
The former Blackburn and Sunderland boss securing promotion in his first role back after his health issues would be
poetic and is very achievable.
