Simon Jordan outlines Everton’s ‘bigger concern’ ahead of their appeal verdict.

Everton fans will remember this week for a variety of reasons.

Worryingly, not everything is expected to go well.

Starting with last night’s terrible performance against Crystal Palace, it hardly sets a good precedent for the news they are anticipated to receive in the coming days about both their ongoing appeal and the impending takeover.

The problematic and opaque character of 777 Partners makes it difficult to see a positive ending for the Toffees.

However, with their appeal, there is a chance that some type of compensation would restart their campaign. However, Simon Jordan is concerned about the worst-case scenario.

What Simon Jordan has said about Everton’s appeal

Speaking live on talkSPORT earlier this morning (20/02, 10:30 a.m.), the former Palace chairman was blunt in his assessment of Everton’s prospects for the coming week.

That is, despite maintaining that the Toffees have little choice but to improve now that the ten-point deduction has been applied. They can only acquire points or remain the same.

However, success in this appeal would create a precedent for their second claimed infringement, which would be revolutionary.

Jordan claimed: ‘That they’re going to be sanctioned further in this instance for this appeal, i.e. you’ve made an appeal, so we’re going to penalize you more severely. It only gets better or remains the same.

‘The bigger concern for Everton hasn’t got to be this appeal; it’s got to be what happens next because there’s more coming down the line for them, and I don’t understand how, if they were to maintain the sanction, or even if they were to reduce it by two points and they were punished again for the same offence, I thought if you were a recidivist, you got a bigger punishment.

‘If you go to prison for robbery and come out, I’m not saying Everton are robbers, but if you do a crime, get out, then conduct the same crime again, you usually receive a longer sentence. So I wouldn’t be overly optimistic about it.

“The bottom line is that it can only get better for Everton this week in the short term, because if the football leverage and football pressure is brought to bear in the independent panel, they must have had good reasons in their mind to award ten points, unless they were doing it to make a point and were always going to reduce it on appeal.”

Everton need a boost following last night’s performance.

Any kind of point boost would be greatly appreciated, given recent performances have shown that they are unlikely to gain many more on the field.

Last night represented a fantastic opportunity to defeat a relegation opponent at a floodlit Goodison Park, against a team short a permanent manager and three crucial players.

Sean Dyche’s setup was overly passive, and it wasn’t until the last 15 minutes that the hosts felt like they were making progress.

With a series of important home games against clubs in and around them, they must find a method to improve their form on Merseyside while playing rivals they should beat.

Otherwise, it could be their performance at Goodison Park that condemns them to the drop.
