Former Reading FC defender calls legend ‘best captain ever’

Sean Morrison, a former Reading defender, said Jobi McAnuff, a legend of the Royals, “the best captain I ever had.”

When McAnuff was captain of Reading before leaving to join Cardiff City in 2014, Morrison joined the team in 2011 and played around 50 games.

McAnuff, an EFL veteran with almost 800 appearances, played for the Bluebirds around 300 times, most of them as captain.

The winger, who captained the Royals to the Premier League under Brian McDermott, joined Reading in 2009 and left in 2013.

Morrison talked extensively about his time at Berkshire and his former colleagues, particularly McAnuff, in an interview with the Central Club Podcast.

“[He was] The best captain I had,” Morrison remarked. “He was amazing.” Watching Jobi as captain gave me many

of the qualities I’ve always wished to possess. He never tried to be anyone else in the way he spoke to others; he was

always himself. I have had captains that feel compelled to speak up or be the loudest person in the room just because

they are the captain. People admired Jobi because he was authentic. You would pay attention if he spoke.

Spending time in management with Leyton Orient, McAnuff is now among the most respected pundits and regularly covers the EFL on Sky Sports.
