Leeds United v Sheff Wed: BBC Sheffield commentator reacts to ‘Disastrous’ moment

Rob Staton called Sheffield Wednesday’s afternoon start ‘disastrous’ after Leeds United scored three minutes into the

match. Manor Solomon gave his team the lead shortly after, but Wednesday custodian James Beadle looked

unsteady and parried the ball into Solomon’s path.

The Whites maintained their lead in the Championship with a 3-0 victory at Elland Road on Sunday, January 19,

thanks to goals from Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka in the 88th and 96th minutes.

Commentator Staton claimed that the Owls were their own worst enemies in a live broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield

on January 19, 12:07, saying: “It is a disastrous start so far for Sheffield Wednesday.”

James Beadle emerges and fumbles the ball directly to Leeds after it is a straightforward ball into the box. He ought

to hold on to it. You have to be able to cope with such easy balls into the box and if you come for the ball, you have to

keep it.

“Definitely not part of the plan for Wednesday.”

Leeds United see off Sheffield Wednesday

Leeds had the perfect start to the afternoon thanks to Wednesday, and while Beadle should have done a better job of

catching the ball, Daniel Farke won’t have been upset with the way the goal was scored.

The Whites would have preferred to be in a slightly safer position at halftime rather than remaining one goal ahead

after unable to capitalise on their early lead against the Owls.

After displaying perseverance in his play to hold the ball and find the goal that ended the game, Ramazani was able

to boost his team’s efforts in the second half. Tanaka was able to provide a final blow shortly before the end of the

game.

Daniel Farke, Leeds United manager

Daniel Farke is in his second season at Leeds United.

Nevertheless, the West Yorkshire outfit will have been pleased to come away with all three points from the game to

keep them in pole position in the league.

A trip to Norwich lies ahead on Wednesday (22 January) and Farke will be returning to his former club in the hope
that his side can start to build off the victory and put together a string of wins going forward.
