Rams can’t complete comeback vs. Eagles: Instant analysis of 28-22 loss

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams were aware that they would not only be competing against the Philadelphia Eagles, who had a record of 14 wins, but also against the elements.

The prognosis was for four to six inches of snow, so they made preparations to play in circumstances that were both chilly and challenging. However, they were not yet prepared for the magnitude of the effect that the weather would have.

Even though they were in the game throughout the first half and were only down by three points heading into halftime, the Eagles were able to pull away from the Rams in the second half, much as they did in Week 12 of the season.

In addition to the fact that the snow made the field very difficult for the Rams offense to handle, the fact that they had no meaningful response for the Eagles’ run game was another factor that contributed to their failure.

Saquon Barkley broke away with touchdown runs of 62 yards and 78 yards, resulting in a total of 205 yards and two scores on the ground.

As a result of his second touchdown of the day, the Eagles took a 28-15 lead, which was almost enough to end the game.

Nevertheless, the Rams were not about to give up without putting up a fight. In the last minute of the game, they marched down the field and scored a touchdown with 2 minutes and 48 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

They also made a fast stop on defense and marched down the field to get to the Eagles’ 21-yard line. Sadly, they were unsuccessful on fourth down, which brought an end to their attempt to make a comeback.

Eagles won 28 to Rams 22 in the final score.

The Rams didn’t go quietly, putting together a touchdown drive late in the fourth. After moving down the field in 10 plays, the Rams made it a six-point game with a touchdown throw from Stafford to Colby Parkinson.

After making a stop on the Eagles’ following drive, the Rams received the ball back with little over 2 minutes remaining and only behind 28-22.

The Rams marched down the field and got to the Eagles’ 21-yard line with under 2 minutes to go, but the drive halted after a false start and sack. Stafford’s last pass was a fourth-down ball that ran out of bounds, halting the Rams’ rally.

It was over when…

…Stafford’s ball meant for Nacua flew out of bounds on fourth-and-11, erasing any possibility of miraculous for the Rams. They went down swinging and nearly pulled off a stunning comeback, but they came up just short.

3 stars of the game

No. 3 star: Jared Verse – 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 QB hits, 3 TFL

No. 2 star: Puka Nacua — 6 receptions, 97 yards

No. 1 star: Matthew Stafford – 26-for-44, 324 yards, 2 TDs

Play of the game

The Rams didn’t go down without a fight, and it was primarily owing to Puka Nacua’s 37-yard grab along the right sideline late in the fourth quarter.

What’s next?

The Rams will walk into the offseason with a bad taste in their mouth after falling to the Eagles for a second time. They were one victory away from hosting the NFC Championship Game again, but the Eagles were too much to overcome.

It would’ve been a massive shock if they had defeated the Eagles, given how much skill Philadelphia has, but it simply wasn’t in the cards for this Cinderella squad following their 1-4 start to the season.
