Reading 1-3 Stockport County: Player Ratings

Joel Pereira: 5

Since Pereira needed more assistance than he had from a very weak defense, I wouldn’t really blame him for any of the goals. Callum Connolly had acres of space to score a good header past Pereira from a free-kick delivery in the second, which was very annoying.

made numerous good saves aside from Diamond’s one-on-one in the second half. Pereira gave the ball away at the back in the first half, which was a terrible situation that was fortunately not capitalized on. The distribution was poor.

Rushesha Tivonge: 4

failed to follow his man for the first goal, letting the corner be flicked on at the near post without applying enough force. There has to be more switched on.

He did get better as the game progressed, but defensively he wasn’t very convincing otherwise. In a lackluster first half, the right-back provided some offensive energy, more than most other defenders, but not enough. Withdrawn for Michael Craig at the hour mark.

Dean Harlee: 6

For the majority of the game, there were no significant defensive concerns. At 0–2, Dean made a crucial block after Pereira gave the ball away. However, he needed to be faster to the ball for the visitors’ third goal, but Kyle Wootton beat him, letting Jack Diamond in on goal.

Unfortunately, Reading suffered greatly in this game as a result of Dean’s poor upfield play. Since he lacks Amadou Mbengue’s technical skill and bravery while driving upfield, the visitors give him a lot of the ball even though they know he won’t be able to do anything with it. After the break, though, I became more courageous in possession and made an effort to push Reading ahead more.

Tyler Bindon: 6.

Although he was available for some crucial defensive interventions and cleared the danger whenever the visitors went through on goal in both half, he was not nearly as authoritative as normal.

Kanu Abraham: 4

Barring a strong challenge on Isaac Olaofe early on, the defense was unconvincing once more and clumsy. Once more lacking in courage when in possession, they frequently choose to go backwards rather than try to get the ball upfield. At the break, taken off for Dorsett.

Harvey Knibbs: 4

Not in the game, though. won the ball back a couple of times, but he doesn’t contribute much in a game that demands ingenuity in the center and doesn’t provide Knibbs many chances to press and harass. Late in the game, he had a chance to score when a corner dropped to him, but his strong shot was blocked and sailed right into a mass of bodies.

Lewis Wing: 4

Due to being marked out of the game, he didn’t have much of an influence during open play. He also had some unusually bad set pieces, including two second-half free kicks from a deep position that missed the first man.

Charlie Savage: 5

Usually not much more productive than the other two midfielders, he did give Reading a creative moment in the game by whipping in the free kick that Sam Smith used to score the game-winning goal. Late on, he also curled in a perilous corner, which caused some nearby pinball.Soon after the break, he got himself into the book at a low cost. Everyone was reasonably annoyed by the Stockport physio’s slow departure from the field, but Savage allowed his feelings to overcome him and pushed the physio onto the touchline, where the referee could see him. Since the referee wasn’t doing much to get the physio off and restart the game, I couldn’t blame Savage for his displeasure, but he

Campbell, Chem: 4

A calm afternoon after his injury return, with little to work with but little influence anyhow. blew a fantastic opportunity following Ehibhatiomhan’s comeback in the second half. For Kelvin Abrefa, it was withdrawn.

Sam Smith: 5

Slamming home Savage’s free kick was a really beautiful finish for 1-2, but otherwise it was scraps and couldn’t add anything up front.

Andre Garcia: 4.

Although there were a few good touches here and there, the attackers, like the other two, didn’t have much to work with. reportedly shoved a Stockport player into the hoardings during the first half, earning a booking. Although I haven’t witnessed the incident again, it didn’t seem like there was anything going on at the time.

Jeriel Dorsett, substitute: 4

looked rusty after returning from injury and was too careless, but he contributed more goals than Kanu in the second half. I should have been following Wootton’s run after he lost the ball too cheaply in the build-up to Stockport’s third goal, but I was caught heading for the ball.

Michael Craig: 5

Even though the game was rather flat for the majority of his time on the field, he was unable to make much of an impression during his final 30 minutes at right-back. For the third goal, he should have been sprinting back towards his own goal, but instead he jogged and ended up far from goal scorer Diamond.

Ehibhatiomhan Kelvin: 5

Although he was a little careless during his thirty minutes on the field, he did help Reading’s creative play when he drove to the byline and drew the ball back for Campbell, who ought to have done a better job with the finish.

Abrefa Kelvin: 5

Given 13 minutes to influence the game from the right flank when the game was already essentially over, he was unable to contribute much, as was to be expected.
