Cowboys Urged To Sign Zach Ertz? Why?
FRISCO – In search of better, playoff-bound surroundings, free agent Zach Ertz recently begged his way off the Arizona
Cardinals squad. Many landing spots—possibly most prominently, the Philadelphia Eagles, his previous employer—have been
mentioned and speculated about. Do the Dallas Cowboys belong in the “number of landing spots” category as well?
That’s what Bryan DeArdo and Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports are telling us. Which, to be honest, also indicates that CBS Sports doesn’t appear to be that informed about what’s going on with the Cowboys‘ tight end.
While Ertz would undoubtedly prefer a return to his beloved Eagles, Dallas may be able to provide an even cleaner route to
pass-catching possibilities, according to the “experts” of CBS. Although it would be strange to see him wear the star, why
wouldn’t the Cowboys think about doing so to provide Dak Prescott with even more support as they aim for a true postseason run? Why? Let’s tally the methods.
1. Ertz was a three-time Pro Bowl player in the past. However, he’s 33. Furthermore, an NFL scout we spoke with claimed that
he had lost his ability to get downfield with age. At best, he’s now a safety-valve person. In fact, he has one touchdown and 27
grabs for 187 receiving yards in seven games this season.
2. – Being a member of the “Never Say Never” Club is usually a good idea, but Ertz in Dallas would probably do little more than
impede the development of young backup tight ends Luke Schoon maker and Peyton Hendershot. 3. It’s time for CBS to get to
know Jake Ferguson. Ferguson now leads all tight ends in the league with 51 catches for 570 receiving yards and five
touchdowns, making him a strong candidate for the Pro Bowl. Dak Prescott loves him, especially when he’s in the red zone. Additionally, Mike McCarthy, the coach, has a strong affection for him.
Dak on the “Big Biscuit” tight end: “He’s a baller … He’s a little crazy but you have to be playing his position.” McCarthy on Ferguson: Jake has been tremendous.
You simply adore his enthusiasm, and he’s significantly strengthening the offensive play style of our team. His output clearly
speaks for itself. “We all adore the way he plays, but he also puts in the dirty work that isn’t reflected in the stats.” In his second NFL season, Ferguson, 24, is playing.
After CeeDee Lamb, he is Dallas’ second-best pass-catcher. Additionally, his skills highlight the points McCarthy is making in
his “Texas Coast Offense.” Any roster can always use some assistance. However, Ertz in Dallas? The Cowboys contend that assistance is not required in this situation.
