According to Football Insider (via Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast), Peter O’ Rourke stated that Southampton had internally accepted their loss in the Walker-Peters controversy.
The defender is already in his final six months of his contract at St. Mary’s, and the Saints are concerned that he may go for free in the summer.

Walker-Peters does not face a shortage of buyers. Previously, multiple Premier League clubs, including Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, shown interest in signing him.

In addition, Southampton recently signed Johannes Spors as their new director. As a result, the Saints may receive a minimal transfer fee for him while he remains on their roster.

The article also stated that a £5 million price could be enough for Southampton to part company with him in January.

On defense, the Saints might do without Walker-Peters for the rest of the season. Southampton boasts Charlie Taylor and Ryan Manning, thus they are currently well-stocked at left back.
