See Newcastle 10k in action as crowds turn out to support quayside runners
Do you recognise this face? These crowds of runners braved a cold Saturday morning to participate in the Run
Through UK event, and the atmosphere was set by music and cheers.
In terms of scenery, the Quayside served as an amazing backdrop for this Saturday’s Newcastle 10k run, drawing
large throngs of onlookers in addition to the runners.
With a ‘A race’ for those who wanted to run a quick time of less than 40 minutes starting at 9am and a B-race that
saw the next wave of runners cross the start line 20 minutes later, the Run Through UK event got underway early on
the Newcastle riverside. It was a cold morning but saw some sunshine – plus a little bit of fog on the Tyne – as the
runners took in a scenic route which passed the Swing Bridge, continued under the High Level Bridge and took in
other famous bridges – the Queen Elizabeth II; King Edward VII and Redheugh – before looping back.
And there was certainly a warm atmosphere to accompany them, with music at the start and supporters lining the
route to cheer them on. Their well-deserved reward at the end was a medal, free photographs and a goodie bag.
