Chip Kelly Was Interested In Leaving UCLA For Ivy League Before Bolting For Demotion At Ohio State.

Before leaving UCLA to accept a pay reduction and a promotion at Ohio State, Chip Kelly expressed interest in taking over as head football coach at Harvard. In real life, such statement is accurate.

Kelly had one of the worst runs as head coach in program history when the Bruins nearly dismissed him back in November. They agreed to give him an additional year to work things out.

But the sixty-year-old decided to go while he still had the chance after realizing what was coming. Kelly resigned from his Big

Ten head coaching position to take a $4 million less salary as the offensive coordinator at another Big Ten school.

It was an unexpected move that not only made UCLA appear extremely foolish, but it also captured the essence of collegiate

football in the present environment, where NIL and the transfer portal are commonplace.

Kelly desired to be free. Clearly.

He had an interview to be considered for the offensive coordinator post with the Seattle Seahawks. In the end, he accepted the position at Ohio State.

There was still another unexpected suitor in the mix!

Chip Kelly to the Ivy League?!

After thirty years in charge of the program, Harvard head coach Tim Murphy became the most successful coach in Ivy League history. January 17 marked his retirement.

The Crimson had to then start a hiring process for a head coach, and in the end, Rutgers tight ends coach Andrew Aurich was

chosen for the position. A significant number of the alumni base found that offensive. Numerous former athletes sent letters to

the college. Many vowed to stop making donations in the future.

In Cambridge, things are a complete mess.

And among those who were rejected without even getting an interview was Chip Kelly! There was shared interest, according to Wall Street Journal writer Laine Higgins.

Neil Gilman, a former Crimson player, texted Kelly regarding the position. “His brilliant football mind would be appreciated in

a place like Cambridge,” the former said to the latter. The latter expressed his interest in the position to the former.

Harvard didn’t even make an official effort to get in touch.
