Sky Sports: Rangers win at home again to add to Aberdeen’s woes.
Report on Rangers’ 3-0 victory over Aberdeen; Hamza Igamane fired the hosts ahead. Mohamed Diomande and Robin Propper were forced to leave injured. Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers both scored in stoppage time. Philippe Clement’s team behind Celtic by 13 points, and the Dons have gone winless in 12 games. Rangers defeated Aberdeen 3-0 thanks to Hamza Igamane and late goals from Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers, extending the club’s losing streak to 12 games. Philippe Clement’s side started with intent, hoping to sustain their great Ibrox form, and Igamane put them ahead early on.
Despite having the majority of possession and chances, they didn’t score until stoppage time, when Balogun and Dessers sealed the win. The Dons, who made their debuts with new acquisitions Alfie Dorrington and Alexander Jensen, provided little as their league campaign remained poor. Rangers presently trail Celtic by 13 points at the top of the Premiership table. Dominant Rangers inflict Dons another blow. The mood had returned to normal after a few of dissatisfied supporters stormed out of Sunday’s 3-1 home win over St Johnstone in protest of the board and new chief executive Patrick Stewart’s outspoken support for their manager.
Igamane should have scored in the eighth minute when Vaclav Cerny put him through, but his left-footed dink missed the far post after flying past goalie Ross Doohan. However, moments later, after defender Sivert Nilsen let a throw-out from the Dons’keeper go under his foot, Cerny pounced to cut the ball back to midfielder Mohamed Diomande, and when his drive rebounded to an unmarked Igamane, he calmly slotted the ball in from 12 yards for his seventh goal in six games.
The visitors believed they could take something from the game and began to push forward in the closing stages as anxieties began to rise in the spectators. Balogun flicked a Cerny corner against the post with five minutes left, but in the third of seven additional minutes, he rose to nod in a Clinton Nsiala cross. Dessers, who replaced Igamane and had been linked with a move away from the club, sealed the win with a curling shot past Doohan after a long run.
Clement hails ‘complete dominion’Rangers manager Philippe Clement spoke to Sky Sports about his team’s emphatic victory over Aberdeen. “The connection with the supporters at the conclusion [was the most satisfying part]. “It was practically complete dominance of the game. That is what we have been working towards for months. We’ve done it occasionally, but not consistently. “I’m really pleased of Clinton Nsiala for all of his efforts with the B team and in training over the past few months.
“We could have scored more, we had enough chances. We weren’t efficient enough, we hit the bar and post as well.
“We knew we had to kill off the opponent, otherwise they can score with one chance. But we kept pushing.”
