SPFL “confident” in responding to criticism from six clubs as it circulates a review and schedules

meetings

The 42-member Scottish Professional Football League has received its independent governance report

and has arranged a series of group sessions in which it “confidently” intends to address the complaint

leveled by six elite clubs.

The six clubs conveyed “serious concerns” after the preliminary release on findings from the SPFL in

January.

They invited league executives to attend a meeting on February 27.

However, the SPFL has now scheduled a meeting of all clubs on March 19.

The independent assessment of the league’s operations by consultant Henderson Loggie was

commissioned in July,

after SPFL head Murdoch MacLennan apologised to Rangers as a sponsorship issue was resolved.

“We are pleased that, following further discussion with Henderson Loggie, we have now been able to

circulate their independent governance review in its entirety to all 42 SPFL clubs,” a spokesperson for

the SPFL stated.

“Now that clubs are in possession of the review, we are confident they will see for themselves how

thorough and detailed the exercise was – and that Henderson Loggie have delivered in full on the brief

announced in July 2023.”

Last week, the SPFL advised that a joint statement from Aberdeen, Livingston, Motherwell, Rangers, St

Johnstone, and St Mirren had “factual inaccuracies”.

It now expects that disseminating Henderson Loggie’s report will clarify its “number of

recommendations”.

“The board had hoped to consider all of Henderson Loggie’s recommendations at its scheduled meeting

on Monday, 19 February,” according to the statement. “However, one director requested that this

conversation be pushed back so that all board members could attend.

For the purpose of discussing the specific recommendations, a meeting has been set for March 19th.

which is the first opportunity for all SPFL board members to attend in person following February 19th.

It did, however, note that the assessment will be reviewed “given the ongoing public debate” at a

Premiership club meeting that is already set for February 19; later that day, the SPFL board will also

discuss the matter.
