Scott Brown on KT’s Potential Celtic Return and What Former Teammate Must Focus On

Scott Brown has responded to speculations of Kieran Tierney’s prospective return to Celtic, calling the idea “unbelievable” but urged the left-back to focus on re-establishing himself at Arsenal.

Tierney, who moved to Arsenal for £25 million from Celtic Park in 2019, has struggled to find consistent playing time under Mikel Arteta. Following a season-long loan at Real Sociedad and a hamstring injury during Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign, the 27-year-old is expected to seek a fresh start in January.

Tierney was spotted conversing with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at the Celtic FC Foundation’s London Gala event, sparking speculation of a potential return to Parkhead.

Brown, who played alongside Tierney during his early years at Celtic, recognized the appeal of a homecoming but emphasized Tierney’s struggles at Arsenal.

“He is at Arsenal now, and he obviously wants to go back and play games,” Broony told reporters.

“It is up to him what he does and where he travels. If he ever came back, it would be unbelievable. But, in my opinion, he needs to focus on Arsenal and reintegrate into the team.

“They are also a terrific team. You never know, he might go and win the Premier League with them. When he first joined the team, everyone adored him. He is still only 27. I would like to see him win something, like the Premier League.”

Celtic fans would welcome Tierney back, but the club’s capacity to match Arsenal’s demands is doubtful, especially with other potential bidders.

You have to realize that getting KT back to the club would be a huge bet. His injury history since leaving Celtic is quite alarming, and he does not appear to be a player who could play two or three games per week for Celtic.

It’ll be fascinating to see how this one plays out.
