Blackburn Rovers boss charged by FA for Leeds comments
John Eustace was charged by the FA for remarks he made during Blackburn Rovers’ 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
On New Year’s Day, Rovers drew thanks to a late equaliser from Danny Batth. The debate had started just minutes earlier when Pascal Struijk scored from the penalty spot after Mateo Joseph was taken down by Dom Hyam’s challenge.
Eustace called the decision’soft’ after the game. However, he said that Rovers would not have received the final decision.
“I believed it to be a light punishment. “A very, very gentle punishment,” he said.
However, it was really nice to see the boys roll up their sleeves and go again. We deserved the equaliser, in my opinion.
We wouldn’t have it at the other end, in my opinion. It’s an amazing football team, and with 36K in today, the referee is under pressure to make a call. It’s expected at Elland Road at the last minute.
He has been charged with the FA as a result. According to a statement: “John Eustace has been charged with misconduct for remarks he made in the media following Wednesday, January 1, 2025’s EFL Championship game between Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers.
“It’s alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner during post-match media interviews by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or are not in the best interests of the game.”
The head coach of Blackburn Rovers will be in the dugout on Saturday against Oxford United since he has until Monday, January 20, to reply.
Eustace may receive a touchline ban, which would be quite severe, or he may receive a fine. After being sent off against Coventry City in the penultimate game of the previous season, he was last in trouble with the FA, but he just received a fine.
