A pensioner has died after being involved in a collision with an unmarked police car. The woman’s family is being supported by specially-trained officers following her death on Christmas Day while an investigation continues into the crash in Park Hall.

StokeonTrentLive reported at the time how police, paramedics and firefighters were called out to Park Hall Road near its junction with Hulme Road at around 3.50pm on December 5. Emergency services found a collision between an unmarked police vehicle, a Skoda Octavia, and a red Nissan Micra.

At the time West Midlands Ambulance Service said the Nissan driver, a woman in her 80s, who was the sole occupant, was freed by firefighters. While she was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital the force says the officers in the Skoda did not require hospital treatment.

Today Staffordshire Police have revealed how the pensioner was re-admitted to hospital on December 16 – and passed away nine days later. The force has confirmed how a re-referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the woman’s death.
