Jefte on exit dream, minnows ‘ask about’ Dessers and £9m loan star rules set – Rangers transfer state of play.
The Light Blues are in need of recruits as they look to close the gap on Celtic.
Rangers star Jefte has confessed that he hopes to play in the Premier League one day. The Brazilian joined Ibrox on a four-year contract from Fluminense last summer and has emerged as Philippe Clement’s first-choice left-back this season, following an outstanding start to life in the Scottish Premiership. And, after making an immediate impression on the Ibrox faithful, the 21-year-old has admitted that he hopes to one day make his way to the top division in England, while reiterating that his concentration remains on Rangers during the January transfer window.
He told Rangers TV: “My short-term goal is to continue to adapt, develop, and demonstrate to the coaching staff, manager, and club directors that I will always do everything I can to help the team. To leave my blood on the pitch every time, to practice hard, and, of course, to win games and championships. “Long-term, I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League; it’s a dream of mine. But that’s for the long haul. For the time being, my focus is on helping this club.”
According to reports in France, Marseille periphery player Bamo Meite will return to the Rangers’ roster this month. The 23-year-old has recovered from injury but remains on the periphery of the Ligue 1 side’s first-team picture, with the Light Blues mentioned as a possible loan destination for the centre-back alongside FC Lorient just months after his £9 million move to the Stade Veledrome. However, Lorient’s president, Laurent Nicollin, insists that the door is only open for permanent departure. He told Midi Libre: “If we had to sign someone, we would prefer a defender who can play right-back.
“Bamo Meite, the contractor we hired, has this profile. But Marseille intends to sell him. “You never know what might happen at the end of the transfer window.”
