Blackburn Rovers boss on Coventry City striker links and defender exit

John Eustace was unaware if an offer for Brandon Thomas-Asante has been lodged by Blackburn Rovers.

Rovers have made a £1.75 million offer for Coventry City’s striker, according to Sky Sports. The club is looking to sign a striker and a left-winger this month.

The Lancashire Telegraph knows that Thomas-Asante, who they previously attempted to recruit from Salford City, is a target, but no offer has been made.

Eustace had no idea whether Rovers had made a bid, but he did not exclude the possibility. He is said to be on a list, along with Ollie McBurnie and Patrick Bamford, although neither trade is likely to go through.

“I don’t think anything is imminent in the next few days, not that I’m aware of,” Eustace told reporters.

“Brandon is another talented player at this level. We’ve already been connected with several league strikers. He has outstanding pedigree and has performed well in recent seasons.

“I am not sure if there has been an offer. I’m not sure if that happened, but if it did, great.”

Kyle McFadzean missed the victory over Portsmouth due to illness. According to the LT, the veteran defender is in the process of negotiating a trade to Chesterfield.

That agreement was scheduled to be completed by now, but negotiations over its financial terms are still ongoing. A loan until the end of the season came close to being agreed upon, but certain technicalities remain to be worked out.

“Kyle was ill, we’ve had a lot of viruses going around in the squad,” Eustace went on.

“He called and stated he was sick; there had been some sickness in the camp. Everyone has had it now. He wasn’t able to participate tonight.

“There is currently nothing to add. I don’t want him to leave; he’s crucial to the team, particularly off the pitch this season. He has been terrific, and he is an excellent leader. A true professional and a valuable addition to the organisation.”
